BBC 2 screens the first ever episode of Japanese TV programme Monkey, following the exploits of Monkey, Pigsy and Sandy as they trek west from China to India, in service of the monk Tripitaka. It has one of the best intro sequences of any TV programme I’ve ever seen, with terrific voice acting from the British actors dubbed onto the soundtrack, and rapidly becomes very popular at school. BBC 1: The last ever episode of Sykes. Saturday November 17th Ayatollah Khomeini orders the release of 13 American hostages (eight black men and five women) being held at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, on the basis that they are unlikely to be spies. Another 77 remain captive. BBC Continuity Doctor Who: The Creature from the Pit - Part Four The Professionals: Dead Reckoning 2000 AD Prog 140: a special issue featuring the debut of two new strips, The VCs and The Stainless Steel Rat, both of which I loved. The cover advertises the new Star Trek movie (the first of the franchise), heralding its imminent release (though I may not have seen it until some time in 1980). Season 3 of Dallas begins in the UK.
